Dennis Russell, Cimarron Cowboy Poet

Dennis lives in Cimarron, New Mexico. He has been a part of that community off and on since 1962 when his family moved there to reopen the saw mill. Dennis has been writing poems and songs since he was quite young. He started doing some recitations and has had a very good response. He enjoys sharing his original poems and stories as well as some of the classics at campfires or patio gatherings. He also gives wagon rides around town in the summer and enjoys getting out his team for weddings and special events.

On June 30, 2014, Dennis was named the first Poet Laureate of Cimarron NM. In November, 2014, Dennis was the winner of thefirst Western Music Association Cowboy Poetry Jackpot (Novice Division). In December, he was elected Vice President of the Western Wordsmiths Chapter of the Western Music Association.

Dennis' poems have been published on CowboyPoetry.com and published in the Western Way Magazine, a publication of the Western Music Association. In August, 2015, Dennis released a CD, That Old Yellow Horse. It includes his original poetry and his performance of some other popular Cowboy poems.
